Setting up M3U playlist in 11 steps, ending at the live sports groups
Spot the link in WhatsApp
It is a lengthy address with your username and password inside, frequently finishing with type=m3u_plus. Since it contains your login, guard it like a password; anyone with it can use your screens. Star the message so it is one tap away.
Understand what an entry contains
Open the file in a text editor and you will see lines in pairs. The #EXTINF line holds a channel name, logo, guide ID and a group-title label, and the following line is the stream address. Apps read group-title to form groups, which is how sports networks end up side by side.
Check it with VLC on a computer
In VLC, pick Media, then Open Network Stream, paste the address and click Play. Switch to the playlist view to see all entries. VLC is the fastest proof that the link works before you configure a TV for the weekend.
Load it into Kodi via IPTV Simple Client
In Kodi, the path is Add-ons > My add-ons > PVR clients. Select PVR IPTV Simple Client, press Enable, then Configure, and put the address in the M3U playlist URL box. Restart Kodi. Networks then show under TV, and playlist groups turn into channel groups.
Push it to a TV through Smart IPTV
For Smart IPTV on LG or Samsung, open siptv.app/mylist on your phone, type the hardware code the app displays and paste the address. Restart the TV app afterwards. Every detail is in our Smart IPTV walkthrough.
Head straight for the sports groups
AirnTV tags sports networks by sport and by region, so watch for groups like US sports, soccer or combat sports. Kodi shows a group picker in the TV side menu. VLC keeps one flat list, so search a network name rather than browsing.
Search, do not scroll
A full lineup is huge, with 25,000+ channels. VLC places a search field above the playlist view, and Kodi can search its channel list. Typing a network name gets you to the game far sooner than paging with a remote.
Pin favorites and hide clutter
In Kodi, use the context menu on a channel to add it to favorites, or open the channel manager to hide groups you never watch. VLC keeps no favorites for streams, so save a trimmed playlist file if a laptop only needs a few networks.
Tune playback for live sport
In VLC, go to Tools, Preferences, Input / Codecs. Keep hardware-accelerated decoding on, and nudge Network caching up a step if a game pauses. In Kodi, enable Adjust display refresh rate in the player settings so a 60 fps channel runs at 60 Hz. A cable still beats any tweak.
Pick TS or HLS output
The link often ends in output=ts or output=m3u8. The first delivers MPEG-TS streams, the second HLS. If an app struggles with one, ask support for the other version and compare. Many TV apps get along better with HLS.
Share within your screen allowance
Your laptop can play it in VLC while a media PC runs Kodi and the bedroom TV uses Smart IPTV. Only streams playing simultaneously count, and plans allow one to five. For full guide screens and faster group hopping, switch to the Xtream login in a dedicated player.
VLC, Kodi or Smart IPTV for live channels?
Every playlist app receives the same 25,000+ channels and the same group labels. How they present them, and how many live-TV tools they offer, varies widely.
| App | Sports groups | Live playback tools | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|---|
| VLC | Single searchable list | Network caching, hardware decoding | A quick link test before game day |
| Kodi + IPTV Simple Client | Channel groups in the TV menu | Refresh-rate matching, favorites, channel manager | A media PC beside the TV |
| Smart IPTV | Groups from playlist labels | Minimal; relies on your network | LG or Samsung sets with no stick |
| An Xtream player | Server-built groups plus listings | Buffer, decoder, multi-view where available | Big game nights |
Kodi describes every Simple Client option on its official PVR IPTV Simple Client wiki page, and VideoLAN hosts installers on the official VLC website.
Signs you should swap the M3U link for Xtream
Heavy sports viewers often find a bare playlist limiting. The Xtream Codes login walkthrough shows how one account unlocks full guide screens and server-sorted sports groups, and our Windows and Mac walkthrough lists computer players. To see which networks typically air the big leagues, open the US sports IPTV page.
Not a customer yet? Start with an AirnTV trial lasting 24 hours, then choose a plan length and number of screens. A first order is backed by a 7-day money-back guarantee.
Prefer the official word on menus and settings? Go to the VideoLAN page for the VLC player. Which game a channel shows depends on that broadcaster's rights for the season and region. Before you commit, use the trial to open the networks you follow, preferably during a live game.
Live game stuttering? Run through this before kickoff
- The line: plug in an Ethernet cable, or sit near the router on 5 GHz Wi-Fi; a 2.4 GHz signal through two walls struggles with fast action.
- The household: pause console updates, big downloads and cloud backups while the game is on.
- The player: raise the buffer one step where the app has that setting, and keep hardware decoding on unless one channel misbehaves.
- The picture: turn on frame-rate matching if your device offers it, so 60 fps sport does not judder.
- The channel: if one version of a channel stutters, try another version in the same group and tell support which one it was.
Picture quality on AirnTV runs from HD through FHD to 4K, and 4K appears only when a broadcaster supplies it. For bandwidth and device needs, read what a 4K IPTV setup requires. Planning fight nights or race weekends? The live events page helps.
Common M3U playlist problems on game night, and the fixes
Opening the list takes ages
A long file is heavy going for apps that ignore groups. Request a live-only link from support, or switch to the Xtream login, which loads groups as you open them.
The browser downloaded a file
Browsers save playlists rather than playing them, so that is expected. Paste the address into VLC or Kodi, then delete the downloaded file, since your login is written in it.
Kodi lists no channels after setup
Simple Client reads the playlist while Kodi boots. Exit Kodi completely and reopen it, confirm the add-on is enabled and check the pasted address has no leading or trailing space.
VLC shows no sports group
VLC presents one flat list and ignores groups in most views. Search by network name, or use Kodi, which displays groups properly.
Names appear as squares or odd symbols
The app is decoding the text wrongly. Current VLC and Kodi builds handle UTF-8 fine, so update, or switch to one of those two.
A live game stutters in VLC
Confirm hardware-accelerated decoding is active, raise Network caching one notch and connect by cable. If it continues, try the sibling feed of that network or the HLS version of the link.

Your questions on M3U playlist and AirnTV
M3U8 vs M3U: does it matter?
Almost never. An .m3u8 file is an M3U list saved in UTF-8 encoding, so accented or non-Latin channel names show up right, and HLS streaming happens to use that extension as well. Popular apps accept both forms. Your AirnTV link plays whichever label the app prefers, and you never need to convert it.
Will an M3U link show live sport?
Yes. The link includes every live network, and group labels gather sports by sport and by region. Playlist apps have fewer live tools than Xtream players, though. For guide screens, buffer control and multi-view, sign in with the Xtream login in TiViMate or IPTV Smarters Pro using the same AirnTV account.
Does AirnTV hand out free M3U lists?
No. AirnTV neither shares nor links to free M3U lists. The ones passed around online are mostly unlicensed, tend to die fast, come with nobody to help and sometimes hide malware. If you want free TV, the free ad-supported channel apps from TV makers and streaming companies are the legitimate route. Your link belongs to you alone; test it free for 24 hours, and a first order carries 7 days of refund cover.
What app should open my AirnTV M3U link?
Match the app to the screen. On a laptop or phone, VLC confirms the link in seconds. Beside the TV, a media PC with Kodi is tidy. Plenty of LG and Samsung sets can install Smart IPTV. When buffer and frame-rate control matter, switch to the Xtream login in TiViMate or IPTV Smarters Pro.
Will my M3U address change when I renew?
Normally no, because renewing extends your existing account. You only get a different address after a password reset or an account move, and we would WhatsApp it over. Renewals are never automatic. You choose when to add time, and you can pick another length or screen count whenever you do.
Does my AirnTV playlist link work on a phone?
It does. The free VLC app on iOS and Android can play a pasted stream address, which makes a phone a handy test screen. Remember that a phone uses one plan screen, and live sport burns through mobile data. For daily phone viewing, the Xtream login inside IPTV Smarters Pro is the smoother choice.
